Let’s be honest about something, almost everyone’s website is run using WordPress. Yet why is it when I visit many of my favorite websites on my phone, all of which are surely run off of WordPress, they are not optimized for mobile?
My phone is a Blackberry Tour. I absolutely love it and would not trade it for an iPhone. If I want to play with a toy, I’ll bust open my iTouch, but Blackberries are for businesspeople and I don’t see that changing anytime soon, although Apple would be smart to launch a business-specific OS — Apple should work on iPhone Business OS 4.0. You can thank me once they come out with that in the future.
Why is the Blackberry so awesome? Because you can crank out 200 word e-mails in 30 seconds if you wanted to and the contacts and calendars features are much better too. You know, the business stuff is better, although it lacks the entertainment factor.
To get back on topic, I end up visiting websites on my phone all of the time and if your website is not optimized for mobile, there is a good chance that I do not visit your website as frequently as others or I may opt for your competitor who has wisely chosen to “go mobile.”
Website owners, please do your website a favor and install this simple plugin: MobilePress. All you have to do is install it and your website is automatically optimized for mobile phones.
You may not think it’s a big deal since your iPhone is so “real browser-like,” but the one downside of the Blackberry is the browser. I do not want to have to deal with a scroll bar at the bottom of the browser or 1/4 normal sized text before I click the magnifying glass 4 times. I just want to see normal-sized text on a page with no scroll bars. Is that too much to ask for?
With the MobilePress plugin, your WordPress pages and blog posts will render in a perfect sized font without a horizontal scroll bar and your website will load in about 1/10th of the time, saving me a lot of aggravation, and giving you my loyalty in the process.
