Samsung Considering Google TV Partnership

Google Sony TVAn anonymous Samsung executive revealed that Samsung is considering adding Google Android to their TVs. It would be a huge win for Google TV if they landed a partnership with Samsung in addition to their partnership with Sony that was revealed last month, especially because Panasonic ruled out the idea of adding Google’s Android operating system to their TVs last month.

A potential deal with Samsung would be huge for Google because Samsung is dominating the TV market share.  Samsung has 17.2 percent of the worldwide TV market.  No company has ever acquire more than a 20 percent markshare for TVs. Sony has just 5.9 percent of the market so adding Android to Sony TVs wouldn’t have as much of an impact as it would if Google partnered with Samsung. Panasonic has 6.9 percent of the market and LG has 14.8 percent of the market.
