Google’s Next Project: Google TV

Posted by in Google TV on March 17th, 2010 | 3 Comments

Google TVFirst there was the search engine, then e-mail, maps, AdWords, YouTube, an internet browser, Google Apps, and the Google phone.  (See Google’s timeline).  We’re always left wondering what Google is up to next?  That may be Google TV.

Google is working with the likes of Sony, Intel, and Logitech to develop a Google set-top box.  The system will run on an Android-based operating system with the goal of attempting to streamline web-content onto TVs.  For example, receiving streaming HD YouTube videos right on your 60″ plasma.

The technology will be built into Bluray players and TVs from Sony.  Intel will provide the Atom processor, while Logitech builds the keyboard on a TV remote.  The set-top box will have Google Chrome for website browsing.

We’ll have more details as they become available. Spokespeople for the companies have not made any announcements about the project, but both Sony and Logitech are actively hiring programmers with Android experience.
